fuckers passed the law in the middle of the night
despite protests being held against this in the last two weeks
there were more than 100k people on the streets a few days ago

I’m shaking with rage. A huge number of politicians will have their criminal records thrown out. People who have cause state prejudice of millions of dollars (they’re estimating a total of almost one billion). People who have tried to rig the votes in the last presidential election. The officials who had done the inspection in the Colectiv club before the fire that claimed 64 lives last year will be off their charges too.
I’m numb.
Is this for real? What the fuck.
Protests are being organized throughout the country. I’m so worried that violence may break out, despite the fact that all protests so far have been peaceful.
HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN SHARING THIS
There were some incidents at the protest in Bucharest last night, some bands of people have become violent towards the police forces, throwing firecrackers and other blunt objects towards them. This determined the police to ask all protesters to go home, so that the situation doesn’t escalate. They also used tear gas on the instigators. 4 people were injured.
I want to stress that this is not how the protest should be seen. The majority of the people is peaceful and this is the sole incident so far. The crowd condemned the actions of these aggressors, shouting “Not like this!”.
The protests will continue tonight. The people, along with the president, the Superior Council of Magistracy, the attorney general, the European Union and the embassies of several countries are asking the repeal of the emergency ordinance that would decriminalise official misconduct.

Update 03.02.2017:
Bulgarians and Moldavians have announced protests this weekend in solidaritu with Romanians. (I can’t provide links because I’m on mobile, but if anyone can do that, I’d be super grateful) ❤
To any of my followers from Bulgaria and Moldavia, thank you. You guys absolutely rock! ❤
New protests last night, around 300.000 people were out on the streets again in the entire country.
The most touching moment: 150.000 people singing the national anthem in Victory Square in Bucharest ❤
HOWEVER. The law will go forward into Parliament for debate, with virtually the same content as before, so we still have a lot of fight left.
Thank you so incredibly much for all your support, it did wonders <3
They’re doing a governmental meeting on this at 2pm (1h30m from now). Most likely they’re cancelling the emergency order but trying to pass it off as a regular law. They have majority in Parliament so it’ll probably get voted but not approved by the President (who has been one of the loudest voices against this bullshit). However, he can only refuse to approve it once, and beyond that only the Supreme Constitutional Court can stop it for unconstitutionality. So it’s important as fuck we stick to the streets tonight, and keep protesting against this bullshit

Why?
Let’s say you make some vegan chocolate chip cookies. (I looked a recipe up for the sake of this post). These cookies are made with almond milk.
You have a friend that you’ve known for a few months now, and you think it would be nice to surprise them.
So, you offer them one of the cookies. You don’t tell them they’re vegan. As far as your friend is aware, they’re made with cow milk and chicken eggs.
Your friend takes one bite, and a few minutes later you’re using their epi-pen on them and calling 911.
See, what just happened is that your hypothetical friend here has a nut allergy that you didn’t know about, and the almond milk in the cookies was enough to put them in the hospital.
You could have avoided this whole situation by informing your friend that they’re vegan, thus prompting the question “It’s not made with almond milk, is it?”
This doesn’t just apply to cookies. While I’ve never found one, if you happen to know of a vegan fake meat that’s not made with soy and looks and smells exactly like the meat version, don’t serve it to someone and not tell them until after they eat it.
“But I, a vegan, would never do that!”
Great, then this post isn’t about you. This post is about the people who post shit like “when you give your friend vegan food without telling them and they like it *insert gif here*”, and it’s also about the thousands of people who reblog it.

And some people have dusgestive issues or health issues that conflict with some vegan ingredients too
Soy and wheat are used in a lot of meat replacements, and are also 2 of the top 8 food allergens.
And, as mentioned before, peanuts and tree nuts are two more–so, half of the most common food allergens are the things used as vegan substitutes. (Which is also why a lot of people can’t be vegan.)
Basically don’t tell someone you’re giving them one thing when secretly it’s another, ever
This goes for vegan food and also goes for stuff like decaff coffee and so on, there are good reasons why people CAN’T eat/drink certain foods sometimes and tricking them into eating/drinking something without their knowledge by letting them think it’s one thing when it is another isn’t always a harmless thing to do it can actually put their life at risk :(
Honestly? As a person with food allergies who also does a fair amount of vegan baking (BECAUSE of my food allergies!) –
I think it’s on the person with allergies to ask before consuming something? If you know some food might kill you or make you violently ill, you are not likely to accept gifts of food from people without making sure they are safe.
The entire premise is that the person is being tricked.
And the entire post is explaining that you should not trick people into trying something different because it could negatively affect their health.
Someone brought up decaff coffee as an example, which has been discussed in a barista post as well. Giving anything but decaff coffee to a triple bypass patient could land them in the OR again or worse. In the barista example the patient goes to a coffee shop, orders decaf and is given full caf instead. The same has happened with people ordering soy and getting full fat. So on and so forth.
So, in conclusion, this is not a psa for people with food allergies. This is a psa for those of us lucky enough not to have them and those near sighted enough to find it difficult to recognize that other people live with them.
I have food allergies. I usually ask. But here’s something that actually happened once: my dining hall made Salisbury steak with nutmeg, to which I am allergic. I did not think to ask, “Hey, is there nutmeg on this beef?” because beef is almost never made with nutmeg. I assumed the smell was coming from the carrot cake sitting next to it, since carrot cake often is made with nutmeg. To put it mildly, I spent the rest of the day in considerable distress. To this day, I have never encountered a recipe for Salisbury steak that calls for nutmeg. However, it’s also ridiculous to say “You should always ask what’s in something!” because sometimes it’s fucking ridiculous. I’m not going to list off all my food allergens to see what’s safe to eat; I’m going to stick to food that generally is safe and google or ignore the rest. But say you’re allergic to apples, and you see chocolate cake. You know there are NEVER apples in chocolate cake, so you take a piece. Uh-oh: it’s vegan and applesauce was used in place of eggs. If you’re deviating from the standard, LET PEOPLE KNOW.
I’m gonna reblog this version for the commentary. My sister is allergic to most meat substitutes (including soy) due to her nickel allergy, so she’s one of those people you shouldn’t surprise like this. Please signal boost this.
Another thing that’s a problem here: Don’t assume you know their reasons. Yeah, there are a lot of annoying hipsters going “gluten-free” for silly fad reasons. But there are also people who really can’t eat it because of celiac disease. Making a “point” to the former isn’t worth hurting the latter. Unless you’re an asshole.
I’ve got Crohn’s Disease. Almost anything in it with fiber (like say vegetables) makes me ill and causes extreme pain in my digestive track. I have to take a 3,000 dollar medicine twice a month to control it. Like soy. Soy can make me sick.
So yeah. Don’t trick people into eating something.
Even when you do ask, it doesn’t always help. MOST people are forthcoming about ingredients, but I’ve also had conversations like the following:
“Here, try some of this!”
“Does this have milk in it?”
“Just try it!”
“Does it have milk in it.”
“Just eat it.”
“Does. This. Have. Milk. In. It.”
“….”
“….”
“Actually, I’m not sure.”
Now with something like this I can (and do) pass, but if this person were deliberately trying to trick me, like if they - say - thought my avoidance of dairy was a fad thing or all in my head? I’d probably take them at their word and pay for it later. My dairy intolerance isn’t a life threatening thing, but for many it IS, and you should never assume you know better. Especially if the food in question is made with something unexpected. That goes for vegan as well as things like low-carb/paleo foods.
I have never been tricked like that thank god but I have many allergies and am very cousious of what I put in my mouth so PLEASE don’t lie about these things. Wanna educate someone? Sure, talk to them not trick them. Don’t be an asshole
It’s actually a form of assault and hella illegal to do this in some states, especially if you end up having a serious or life threatening reaction. And, yes, people trick others into eating things they know that person needs to avoid all the time. Some kids at my high school knew their friend was allergic to peanuts and tricked him into trying a pb milkshake. He stopped the second he tasted the peanut butter, but he still ended up reacting and had to go to the ER. The kid’s mom pursued legal action and BOY were those kids in deep shit.
I’ve also had conversations where I ask if something has real fruit in it, like a slushie or whatever, and their only response is to roll their eyes at me. Yeah, sorry, very allergic to fruit and especially berries, tell me if there’s fruit in the drink or I’m just ordering water. Or when my order is screwed up and extra tomato is put on something I asked for NO tomato, and they just take it to the kitchen, wipe off the tomato, and give it back. No, seriously, I’m allergic to tomatoes, please remake my order because if you had made it correctly the first time we wouldn’t be having this problem. This has happened more than once and occasionally I haven’t caught it until after I’ve taken a bite (and tasted the tomato juice still on my food).
People give me shit when I list all the ingredients when I bake for a group, and I tell them to get bent.
My family doesn’t mess around when it comes to Christmas cookies.

Bucharest is protesting. Romania is protesting what happened in Colectiv. (photo source)
If this were happening in the U.S., this photo would have had hundreds of notes by now.
I think part of it has to do with the fact the U.S. isn’t even covering this from what I’ve seen. I have no idea what this is. Can you tell me? I really want to know now. This is huge, even if I don’t know what they’re protesting.
On the night of October 30, there was a fire in a club in Bucharest, called Colectiv. The fire started because the club did not comply with the safety regulations demanded by law, and the antiphonal foam covering the club was not fire repellent, so it caught fire when the band holding a concert there started some small fireworks. There was a host of other things, like not enough emergency exists, lack of fire extinguishers etc., basically a lot of irregularities.
The protesters are demanding justice for the people fallen in this fire, and demand the resignation of the mayor of sector 4 in Bucharest, Cristian Popescu Piedone, of the Romanian prime minister, Victor Ponta, as well as the vice prime minister, Gabriel Oprea, seeing that up until now, no responsibility was assumed by any authorities, regarding this incident. We’re protesting corruption, indifference, neglect, a political class that simply does not care. And hopefully we’ll be able to change something.
Update: death toll is now 32. Expected to keep rising, because a lot of victims have burns on their airways. #colectiv32

Bucharest, Novermber 3rd 2015

The current government is no longer in office, following the resignation of Victor Ponta and talks have started for the formation of a new government. This is a victory. But the people will still go out in the streets, will keep pushing for the change that this country needs.
Huge thank you to everyone who has reblogged this to spread the word!
Protests are continuing tonight as well. Around 5000 people in Timisoara, around 4000 people in Sibiu, around 10000 in Bucharest at the moment.

It’s been a while! I have been crazy busy this Winter with the holidays and trying to keep on top of deadlines, which has seen me slacking a little on the personal art front.
I’m hoping to have some fresh art up soon, but for now here are a few full sketch pages. Some of these are from just before Christmas (I posted a few snippets on instagram) just before I took a break from my sketch book for a few weeks. The rest are from the last seven days or so. Definitely need to start picking my pace back up!
It’s obviously well into the New Year now, but since it’s my first post I hope everyone’s 2015 is off to a great start! The news over the last few months has been pretty grim, and there is a lot to be concerned about and plenty of issues that are tremendously worrying.
With that in mind, I really think taking a second to step back from all the negativity and looking at the amazing things people are doing as individuals and as a global community can give us all cause for optimism and personally, I’m looking forward to where this year takes us all!
See you around.
